The calculator uses the compound-interest formula:

Maturity value = P x (1 + r / n)^(n x t)
Here, P is the deposit, r is the annual rate as a decimal, n is the number of compounding periods per year, and t is the tenure in years. Quarterly compounding uses four periods per year.
For example, Rs. 1,00,000 at 7% for five years with quarterly compounding grows to about Rs. 1,41,478 before tax and product-specific adjustments.
What can make the bank value different
Banks can use exact deposit dates, day-count conventions, completed-quarter rules, special short-tenure methods, senior-citizen rates, and different premature-closure treatment. Non-cumulative deposits pay interest out instead of reinvesting it, so this maturity formula is not suitable for a payout FD.
The estimate excludes TDS and income tax. FD interest is generally taxable according to the applicable rules even when TDS is not deducted.
Common questions
Is quarterly compounding standard for every FD?
No. It is common for cumulative bank FDs, but product terms can use another frequency or a special convention for incomplete periods.
Does a higher compounding frequency always increase maturity?
At the same nominal annual rate and tenure, more frequent compounding normally produces a slightly higher value. Banks may quote effective yields differently, so compare the written maturity amount too.
Does the calculator include premature closure penalty?
No. Use the contracted premature-closure rate and penalty from the bank before breaking an FD.
