Estimate how a fixed monthly recurring deposit may grow over the selected tenure. Each instalment earns interest for a different period, so an RD cannot be calculated as one lump-sum deposit.
What this RD calculator shows
- Total amount deposited across all months.
- Estimated interest earned.
- Estimated maturity value.
RD calculation method
The calculator converts quarterly compounding into an equivalent monthly growth rate:
RD monthly-rate formula
Monthly rate = (1 + annual rate / 4)^(1 / 3) – 1
It adds each monthly instalment at the beginning of the month and applies that monthly equivalent. The tenure is rounded to complete months.
This method is useful for comparison, but a bank can calculate individual instalments using exact dates, completed quarters, and residual-day interest. The written maturity amount in the RD contract remains authoritative.
What the estimate excludes
The result assumes every instalment is paid on time and the annual rate remains unchanged. It does not include missed-instalment penalties, delayed-payment effects, premature closure, TDS, income tax, or a changing monthly deposit.
If you already have a one-time amount, use the FD calculator instead. Combining a lump sum and monthly deposits into one RD input would misstate how long each rupee earns interest.
Common questions
Why does each RD instalment earn a different amount?
The first instalment remains deposited for almost the full tenure, while the final instalment remains for only a short period. Their interest cannot be identical.
Can I enter a changing monthly deposit?
No. This version assumes equal instalments. Calculate separate phases when the monthly amount changes materially.
Does this show the post-tax maturity amount?
No. It shows estimated gross interest and maturity before tax. Verify current TDS and income-tax treatment for your case.
