You may have seen a headline saying that EPFO 3.0 lets you withdraw PF through UPI. But if you open the EPFO member portal or BHIM today, you will not find a confirmed public UPI claim-settlement option.
EPFO UPI withdrawal is not live yet. A Business Standard report published on 26 July 2026 says the proposed facility is now expected in August after problems with EPFO’s upgraded portal. That August timing comes from people aware of the development, not from a formal EPFO launch notice.
The quick answer
- EPFO has not announced that PF claim settlement through UPI is live.
- The official member portal confirms a major system upgrade and a post-migration stabilisation period.
- Business Standard reports that the UPI-linked facility is expected after portal problems are resolved.
- August is a reported expectation, not a guaranteed launch date.
- An official 2025 planning record described an initial Rs 1 lakh per-transaction design, but no final public launch instructions or live UPI claim process are available yet.
- Members can continue using the official EPFO and UMANG claim services currently available to them.
Is EPFO UPI withdrawal live now?
No official EPFO page checked by Paisaseed on 28 July 2026 said that members could settle an EPF claim through UPI immediately.
The official member portal lists current member services and displays an alert about its recent database consolidation and software upgrade. It does not display a public “withdraw through UPI” option or a UPI launch announcement.
That means you should not follow a third-party tutorial that asks you to open an unfamiliar app, enter a UPI PIN to receive PF money or pay a fee to activate EPFO 3.0.
The absence of a launch notice does not mean the proposal is fake. It means the proposed service and the service available today are two different things.
What is confirmed and what is only reported?
| Claim | Status on 28 July 2026 | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| EPFO completed a major database consolidation and software upgrade | Officially confirmed | EPFO Member Portal alert |
| Member and employer services are returning in phases | Officially confirmed | EPFO Member Portal alert |
| Claims may take longer during post-migration stabilisation | Officially confirmed | EPFO Member Portal alert |
| EPFO reviewed immediate bank-account credit through UPI and integration with SBI and NPCI | Officially confirmed as development work | Labour Ministry release dated 29 March 2025 |
| An initial Rs 1 lakh per-transaction design covered Forms 19, 31 and 10C | Official planning record, not a live public rule | EPFO 113th Executive Committee agenda |
| A BHIM-linked UPI claim-settlement facility is expected after portal stabilisation | Reported rollout expectation | Business Standard |
| The facility is expected in August | Reported, not guaranteed | Business Standard, citing people aware of the development |
| Members can withdraw a fixed percentage through UPI today | Not confirmed | No live EPFO process or final limit found |
| Every member will receive an EPFO ATM card | Not confirmed | No final public process found |

This distinction matters because many older pages were written around expected June or July launch windows. A date in an old headline does not make the feature available on the official portal.
Why is the UPI-linked facility reportedly delayed?
EPFO’s official member portal says it completed a major database consolidation and software upgrade. Services were made live in phases, with extra checks during an initial stabilisation period.
The portal alert also warns that claims and some services may take longer than usual during this period. It asks members to avoid repeated access attempts during peak hours and avoid submitting the same request repeatedly.

Official EPFO Member Portal alert checked on 28 July 2026. The notice confirms phased service restoration and stabilisation. It does not announce a UPI launch date.
The Business Standard report connects the UPI delay to problems reported after the upgraded CITES 2.01 platform went live. It mentions missing older-account data, login failures, slow loading and claim-processing delays reported by members.
According to that report, EPFO is prioritising portal stability before introducing more digital services. The Labour Ministry had not responded to the publication’s email by the time the report was published.
So the careful conclusion is simple: the portal upgrade is official; the August UPI expectation is reported.
When could PF withdrawal through UPI start?
Business Standard says the facility is expected after major portal errors are addressed, with an August rollout considered likely. Mint published a similar summary on 27 July, but it explicitly attributes that reporting to Business Standard rather than independently confirming the timeline.
But EPFO had not published a guaranteed date on the official member surface checked for this article. Treat August as a watch window, not an appointment.
Before assuming the feature has launched, look for all three:
- An announcement on an official EPFO or Labour Ministry channel.
- A visible option inside the official EPFO member service or UMANG.
- Published eligibility, authentication and settlement instructions.
If only a news headline or social-media video says the feature is live, wait for the official process.
How is the proposed UPI settlement expected to work?
The latest report describes a BHIM-linked UPI interface that would connect an eligible EPF claim with the member’s linked bank account. It would complement the existing NEFT-based settlement system rather than replace it.
That wording is different from taking unrestricted money out of a wallet. UPI is expected to make the settlement route faster or easier after an eligible claim is processed. It does not turn the full EPF balance into an ordinary bank balance.
The report says C-DAC is developing system connections involving SBI and NPCI under EPFO’s technology-modernisation project. Final screens, authentication steps and supported claim types can still change before public launch.
There is one useful official planning detail. An EPFO Executive Committee agenda from 2025 described an initial design covering Form 19 final settlement, Form 31 advance and Form 10C pension withdrawal benefit, with each transaction capped at Rs 1 lakh. That document shows how the system was being designed. It does not mean the option is live today, and it should not be treated as the final public rule until EPFO publishes launch instructions.
Do not rely on a speculative tutorial for:
- the exact UPI app to use
- a fixed withdrawal percentage
- a promised settlement time
- an ATM card design
- a final UPI PIN or OTP flow
Those details need an official launch instruction.
Have EPF withdrawal limits or tax rules changed because of UPI?
The proposed payment channel does not by itself prove that eligibility or tax rules have changed.
Some ranking pages mix EPFO 3.0 reforms, auto-settlement limits, unemployment withdrawals, proposed ATM access and UPI settlement into one list. That can make every item look live at the same time.
For your own claim, use the eligibility and amount shown through the official claim service. Do not choose an amount because an unofficial page says UPI allows a particular percentage.
Tax also depends on the reason for withdrawal, service period and applicable EPF and income-tax rules. A faster settlement channel does not automatically make an otherwise taxable withdrawal tax-free.
How can you submit an EPF claim now?
Continue with the official service currently available to your account. Depending on the service and your eligibility, that may be through the EPFO member portal or the EPFO section in UMANG.
Before submitting anything, check:
- your UAN is active
- Aadhaar and required KYC details are correct
- the bank account belongs to you and is correctly linked
- the Member ID and employment record are correct
- you selected the claim type that matches your situation
If you are unsure which passbook columns belong to EPF and EPS, first understand employee, employer and pension entries. A wrong reading of the passbook can make the available balance look incorrect.
Submit one claim through an official route and save the reference. Repeated submissions can make an already unstable service harder to track.
What if the portal or claim is stuck?
The official alert says processing can be slower during stabilisation. Start by saving the claim reference and checking the status rather than filing the same request again.
If the problem remains specific to your account, use EPFiGMS and describe one issue clearly. Include the UAN or Member ID through the protected form, not in a public social-media post.
Keep only the evidence needed for the problem:
- claim reference
- submission date
- screenshot of the official error
- relevant passbook page
- bank-account verification status
If your concern is that EPF interest is not showing, check the annual interest entry separately. A missing interest row, a delayed claim and a portal login error are not the same issue.
How can you avoid fake EPFO UPI links?
A high-interest launch creates an easy opening for scams. A message may promise instant PF withdrawal before the official feature exists.
Stop if a link or caller asks you to:
- pay an activation or release fee
- share an OTP, password or full Aadhaar image
- enter a UPI PIN to receive PF money
- install a remote-access application
- move money to “verify” your bank account
- use an APK or app sent through a chat message
A UPI PIN authorises money leaving your bank account. You do not enter it merely to receive an incoming credit.
Open EPFO, UMANG or BHIM through their official website or trusted app-store listing. Do not use a sponsored lookalike page just because it includes the EPFO logo.
What should EPFO members do today?
If you do not need to make a claim, no action is required merely because EPFO 3.0 is in the news.
If you need an eligible claim now, use the current official route. Check KYC and bank details, submit once and keep the reference.
If you are waiting specifically for UPI settlement, watch official EPFO and Labour Ministry channels during August. Do not plan an emergency payment around a reported launch window.
More passbook, pension and withdrawal explainers are available in Paisaseed’s Retirement & Government Schemes guides.
Bottom line
EPFO 3.0 UPI withdrawal is not confirmed as live on 28 July 2026. The official portal confirms a major upgrade, phased services and a stabilisation period. Business Standard reports that the proposed BHIM-linked facility is now expected in August after portal problems are addressed.
The August timing is not a guaranteed EPFO launch date. Until an official option and instructions appear, use the existing EPFO or UMANG claim route, ignore speculative limits and never pay or enter a UPI PIN to receive PF money.
This article is for general education and reports a developing service update. EPFO features, claim rules, tax treatment and launch timing can change. Verify the current process through official EPFO or Labour Ministry channels before submitting a claim.
FAQs
